  • 1. Stockholm University is one of the world's 200 highest-ranked universities and one of Europe's 50 best universities. Shanghai Jiao Tong University produces the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). It measures quality of research, including indicators such as the number of alumni and employed researchers who have won Nobel Prizes, highly cited researchers, and articles published in Nature and Science. In the ARWU from 2021, Karolinska Institute ranked first among Swedish universities, and 42nd in the world; Stockholm University ranked second in Sweden and 74th globally; Uppsala University was third in Sweden and 78th in the world. QS ranks Stockholm University as number one in Sweden in Arts and Humanities.   • 2. The Nobel Prize. At Stockholm University professors who teach students are among those who also nominate Nobel Laureates. Several professors are on committees that nominate the laureates for Nobel prizes and the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. The chairman of the committee for the award in physics and the secretary for the prize in chemistry are currently both professors at SU.
    Four researchers at Stockholm University have received the Nobel Prize – all in chemistry, and one of the University’s researchers, Gunnar Myrdal, has received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences.     The deadline for applying for autumn 2022 courses and programs is January 17, 2022. To apply as an international student, please visit www.su.se/study where you can create an account, search for and apply to courses and programs, and find additional information about applying to higher education in Sweden.
    At Stockholm University, tuition varies according to the course or program of study. The price per academic year for studies within the humanities/social sciences/law is SEK 90,000 (roughly $10,000) and within the sciences SEK 140,000 (approximately $16,000). Some programs have special prices in the above range, and a few programs offered in collaboration with other universities have higher tuition fees. There is also an application fee of SEK 900, paid directly to University Admissions in Sweden to have your application processed.
    Doctoral courses are free for all international students. In Sweden, the university or external financiers usually pay for doctoral positions, so you study for free and also earn an income. Additionally, there is a variety of scholarship options available to American students.
